Supporting educational research in Western Australia

WAIER was established in the 1980s for the purpose of promoting and disseminating new educational research. Over the years, WAIER has worked across educational contexts and communities to support research and create collaborative networks. By means of collegiality and collaboration amongst research active colleagues, WAIER advocates for, and promotes, educational research across Western Australia.

Annual research forum

A key activity of WAIER is the organisation of an annual research forum. This forum provides opportunities for educators and researchers to build networks and share their work.

It is an important event for pre-service and in-service educators, early career researchers, and established researchers to receive feedback on their work in a friendly and collegial space and make connections across institutions and contexts.

You can find out more about WAIER’s annual research forum on our News and Events page.

Research journal

WAIER also supports educational researchers through publication in the well-respected open access journal, Issues in Educational Research (IIER).

IIER is a refereed academic research journal publishing research topics which are drawn from all sectors of education and may be based upon a wide range of contexts and research methodologies. You can find out more about IIER here.

Advocacy for research funding

WAIER proudly advocates for the necessity and significance of high-level and rigorous educational research.

In October 2020, WAIER released a statement regarding government cuts to research funding. The statement raised concerns about the potential risks and long-term damage to Australian/Western Australian society as a result of cuts to research funding. You can access the statement in full here.
