Forum 2013 Invitation

University of Notre Dame, 1.00 pm to 6.00 pm, Saturday 10 August
The Forum activities are in The University of Notre Dame Australia's recently completed Education building, the Tannock Hall of Education, corner of Cliff and Croke Streets, Fremantle. Consult your street directory for parking locations, or for public transport by bus or train - note the close proximity to Fremantle Railway Station. Submitting an abstractWAIER invites submissions of abstracts from individuals and groups wishing to attend, make a presentation, or conduct a symposium or panel discussion on topics and research related to education or the Forum theme, Research informing reform.

Abstracts are due by Friday 26 July 2012 (late submissions may be considered if time slots are available). Please refer to the page detailing the requirements for [Abstract Submission]. To submit an abstract, download the [Registration Form], complete and submit by email to [registration@waier.org.au] (the form is a Microsoft Word file which combines abstract submission and registration functions).

'You can't be neutral on a moving train': Why critical
educational research matters in 'dark times'

Professor Barry Down BSocSc, GradDipEd, BEd, MEd, PhD holds the City of Rockingham Chair in Education at Murdoch University [Profile]. His research interests focus on the links between educational disadvantage, student engagement in learning, and school-community renewal. His recent co-authored and co-edited books include Critically Engaged Learning: Connecting to Young Lives (New York: Peter Lang); Activist and Socially Critical School and Community Renewal: Social Justice in Exploitative Times (Rotterdam: Sense Publishers); 'Hanging in With Kids' in Tough Times: Engagement in Contexts of Educational Disadvantage in the Relational School (New York: Peter Lang); and Critical Voices in Teacher Education: Teaching for Social Justice in Conservative Times (Dordrecht: Springer).

WAIER's [Postgraduate Awards] will also be presented at the Forum (recipients for each University are nominated by the University's Faculty or School of Education).
