Dr Jan Gray BEd, MEd, PhD is currently Director of Higher Degrees in the School of Education, Edith Cowan University. She is an Associate Editor for the international journal Teaching and Teacher Education and National Treasurer, Australian Teacher Education Association.
Jan has been a member of WAIER since 1996 including 8 years service on the Executive Committee, including being Conference Convenor 2003-2008, and she has served on the Editorial Board of WAIER's journal Issues in Educational Research from 2008.
Jan's research awards include the Lawrence McGrath Prize for Outstanding Research in Educational Administration in 2000, and a WAIER Postgraduate Award in 1996. Her teaching and learning awards include a Carrick Citation in 2007 for excellence and innovation in university teaching; a Vice Chancellor's Citation for Excellence in Teaching 2007 - a team award for supporting postgraduate students in the field of social science; an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2004; and Annual Postgraduate Awards for Excellence for Leadership in Research and Research Supervision 1999-2007.
Jan's main research intersts include the factors impacting on development of a school culture conducive to student engagement, achievement, participation and retention; and frameworks within which school leaders can implement sustainable change.
Her current projects include 'Developing a Supportive Senior School Culture (across three 3 schools)' and 'The Role of the new School Boards' (Fogarty Foundation). Other research interests include 'A longitudinal evaluation of the 100 Schools ICT implementation'; 'Indigenous student attendance, retention and success in High School' (ARC); 'Aboriginal Literacy and Numeracy ... Closing the Gap'; research methods, and above all providing quality supervision for postgraduate students.
